Essential Oil Education
Everything you need to know to use essential oils safely, confidently, and effectively — from the basics to everyday applications.
Essential oils are natural aromatic compounds extracted from plants — their flowers, bark, stems, leaves, roots, and seeds. They capture the plant's scent and flavor, or its "essence." When used correctly, they can support physical wellness, emotional balance, and a cleaner home environment. doTERRA's CPTG (Certified Pure Tested Grade) oils are the gold standard: sourced from their native regions, rigorously tested, and free from fillers or synthetic additives.
Inhale directly from the bottle, diffuse into the air, or add a drop to your palms and cup over your nose. Aromatic use is the fastest way to experience emotional and respiratory benefits.
Add 3–5 drops to a diffuser with water for up to 4 hours of continuous use.
Apply directly to the skin — pulse points, the bottoms of feet, or areas of concern. Always dilute with a carrier oil like fractionated coconut oil for sensitive skin or children.
A 2% dilution (2 drops per teaspoon of carrier oil) is safe for most adults.
Some doTERRA oils are safe for internal use when labeled as dietary supplements. Add to water, smoothies, or cooking for flavor and wellness support.
Only use oils labeled with Supplement Facts for internal use. When in doubt, ask me!
Not sure where to begin? These five oils cover the widest range of everyday wellness needs and are the perfect starting point.

Essential oils are powerful — a little goes a long way. Follow these guidelines to use them safely.
Children's skin is more sensitive. Use a 0.5–1% dilution (1 drop per tablespoon of carrier oil) for kids under 10.
Never apply essential oils directly to the eyes or inner ear canals. If contact occurs, dilute with a carrier oil — not water.
Citrus oils (lemon, lime, bergamot) can cause skin sensitivity in sunlight. Avoid sun exposure for 12 hours after topical use.
If you are pregnant, nursing, or managing a health condition, consult your healthcare provider before using essential oils.
Oils like oregano, cinnamon, and clove are "hot" and must always be diluted before skin contact.
Store oils in a cool, dark place away from children. Treat them with the same care as any potent natural supplement.
